MAC: Magic Of The Night Highlighters in Oh, Darling and Shaft of Gold Review

Hey guys! Once again, I'll be talking about highlighters on my blog! Clearly if you haven't noticed, I'm OBSESSED with highlighters! You can honestly never have too many! You guys probably have seen that MAC released their holiday collection! They have several limited edition products in this collection, as well as a few value sets and palettes! I've never purchased any of their holiday palettes, so I can't really tell you guys what to expect, but the prices are really reasonable! This year I may just purchase one! However, the products that captured everyone's attention were the Extra Dimension Skinfinishes! There are 2 shades; Oh, Darling and Shaft of Gold. Both of them are gorgeous! So, I decided why not do a review on these!

New Extra Dimension Skinfinishes in Oh, Darling and Shaft of Gold

First things first, I'm not impressed with the packaging. It just feels so cheap and I feel like they could have came out with a better design! It just comes in this metallic blue compact (the old MAC compact). The compact itself is light as a feather! It doesn't feel sturdy! Like be extremely careful with it, because I feel like if it ever fell, the product would shatter into bits! The box of the compact is the same color as the compact, like nothing fancy. However, the embossing on the highlighter is stunning! It's the classic MAC embossing, but I find it adds value to the product! The product itself comes with 9g of product and it costs $38.50CAD. They're limited edition, so if you're interested get them ASAP! I purchased mine online at Hudson Bay's (The Bay or La Baie) website. I actually got this the first day that it was available on The Bay's website, which was Monday and I received it no jokes, the day after! I was super impressed with the shipping and the site didn't crash, so the process flowed smoothly! I've said this before on my blog, but every time MAC has a new collection, it's best to purchase it from The Bay's website! MAC's website always crashes and it always gets sold out on there! I purchased the MAC Giambattista Valli lipsticks from there and legit no issues! You also just need to spend over $45CAD to get free shipping (at least for Canadians, but check for your country!) and as mentioned, shipping is normally really fast! However, Oh, Darling is sold out on The Bay's website (it's mostly sold out everywhere online), but these will hit the counters on October 26th I believe, so definitely pay a visit to your local MAC store! Shaft of Gold is available on MAC's and The Bay's website!

Another look

Let's discuss the formula of these. I'm personally obsessed with the Extra Dimension Skinfinishes, however for some of you, it may seem like it's a bit too much. These are intense highlighters! They leave a beautiful metallic and reflective finish! So, if you're someone that wants a subtle highlight, these will not be for you! However, if you love that glow, you'll legit be glowing for the Gods with these on! They're super pigmented! A little goes a long way! The texture of the highlighter is also really nice. The powder is very finely milled and it feels like those gel to powder formulas. They're also so smooth and glides on the skin easily! They also blend like a dream! In terms of the duration of this highlighter, I find by the 6th-7th hour it started to fade away. It doesn't fade away completely, but you can  see that it's slowly going away. If you have a long day, I highly recommend that you keep this in your purse for touch ups! I think that's the only downside of this highlighter, it's not as long wearing as I would like it to be!

So gorgeous!

Now let's talk about the shades. I'll start with Oh, Darling. It's described as a metallic gold on MAC's website. It basically sums up the shade. It's a light-medium metallic gold with slightly warm undertones to it. I find this is a shade that looks different on different skin tones. I have medium skin and it appeared more of a true metallic gold with warm undertones on me, but I've seen that on light skin, it appears as a metallic gold with orangey brown undertones. It's beautiful regardless, but I find it's best to do comparisons, if you're debating about getting this shade! When I first saw pictures of Oh, Darling, I legit thought MAC was bringing back Whisper of Guilt! I got so excited, but it's slightly different. I don't own WOG so I can't compare it for you guys! This shade would suit any skin color!

Oh, Darling

I wanted to show you guys a little comparison. Just keep in mind, I have medium skin. The swatches will look different on different skin colors! I fished out the highlighters in my collection that I thought would be similar or in the same shade group!

Let's compare these!

Top to bottom: Oh, Darling , MUFE #2 & Moonstone
On top, it's Oh, Darling. The second swatch is Make Up For Ever's Pro Sculpting Duo is #2. They're very similar as you can see! Just Oh, Darling appears more yellow than MUFE does! Oh, Darling is really a true gold! The last swatch is Becca's Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone. As you can see, it's really different. Moonstone is more of a really pale gold compared to Oh, Darling.

Let's compare these 2 now!

Top to bottom: Oh, Darling & Champagne Pop
I also wanted to compare it to Champagne Pop by Becca and Jaclyn Hill. Again, it's very similar, but Champagne Pop is a bit of a paler gold. You can also see that there are peachy undertones to Champagne Pop, whereas Oh, Darling is just a true yellow gold!

Next we have is Shaft of Gold. Now this is definitely a unique shade in my collection, because I have nothing like it! It's described as a deep bronze on MAC's website. I somewhat agree with it, but it appears a bit different on my skin color. It's a light medium bronze with peachy undertones to it with a golden frost. This is what I meant by a unique color! It's kind of hard to describe! This obviously appears different on different skin colors! I've seen swatches of this shade on light skin and it appears more of a orangey bronzey shade. I highly recommend this shade for dark skin! It would even look stunning on medium to tan skin! I'm just not sure if it would look o-m-g on fair and light skins, because shades like Shaft of Gold may appear muddy, since it's a bronze shade.

Shaft of Gold

I actually couldn't find a bronze highlighter in my collection, besides "Bronze Glow" by Bobbi Brown. I own nothing similar to this shade surprisingly!

The only bronze highlighters in my collection

Top to bottom: Shaft of Gold & Bronze Glow
Shaft of Gold is on top and Bronze Glow is on the bottom. Bronze Glow is a lot lighter than Shaft of Gold as you can see! You can also see that Shaft of Gold looks more bronzey and peachy than Bronze Glow.

Here's both swatches of Oh, Darling and Shaft of Gold. They're super different! However, they're both stunning! It really just depends on your skin color and your preference!

Left to right: Shaft of Gold & Oh, Darling

[I took all these pictures using my ring light! There were no edits done to them! I just took them in different angles! I also didn't use a flash!]

I actually took pictures of myself wearing these highlighters, but they just didn't come out true to color! That's why I decided not to post them! I've also been really busy, so I didn't get a chance to retake the pictures, so I apologize! I also wanted to get this review up ASAP, because they're hitting counters tomorrow and I'm sure there's a lot of you that are interested in purchasing this product! Your best bet is to go early! Oh, Darling will sell out in the first few hours, so don't wait up! I personally love these highlighters and I think they're an amazing addition to my collection! Out of both of them, Oh, Darling is my favorite and I highly recommend that you guys look into it! Shaft of Gold is a unique shade in my collection! It definitely gives you a break from your typical light gold highlighters! I'm telling you, you can't go wrong with these!

Fall Must Haves (Makeup)

Hey guys,  I wanted to share with you guys the makeup that I'm obsessed with when it comes to Fall! Fall is my favorite season when it comes to makeup and clothes! There's just so much out there during this season and so many makeup companies are releasing new products for this month! I'm super excited and I'll for sure be sharing with you guys the new products that will be hitting the market soon! As for now, let's talk about my Fall must haves!

1)Vampy/Dark lips
Vampy lips are a must! I was always scared of dark lipsticks, but honestly once you start, you just become obsessed! I absolutely love Diva by MAC. It's a reddish burgundy that legit suits any skin color! It's also not too dark, so if you want to purchase your first dark lipstick, I highly recommend Diva! If you want something a bit darker than Diva, I recommend Media. It's a dark burgundy with purple undertones to it. It's similar to Diva, just darker! I don't own this lipstick, because it was sold out last Fall, but it's on my list! Another lipstick that I love from MAC is Rebel. Rebel is like a berry plum. If you want a break from reds, purple is definitely the way to go! It's another color that would suit any skin color and just amps up your makeup! If you want something that's a bit more intense than Rebel, but that's still in the purple family, try Cyber by MAC. I actually don't own this lipstick, but I've tried it on and I'll be purchasing it! It's a blackish purple, that suits any skin color! I also LOVE the matte lip cream by Nyx in Transylvania! It's a dark berry purple. Again, it would suit any skin color! The good thing about these matte lip creams is that you can always build up the color or tone it down. I always like to apply 2 layers, because I love a intense lip, however, if you're not used to dark lips, try one layer! Now, if you already tried the vampy reds and purples, then try something a little more intense. I'm talking about black lipstick! Some of you may think it's a bit too much, but trust me black lipstick is gorgeous! I personally love to do a light eye makeup with black lipstick and I get so many compliments! The black lipstick I have is by MAC called Hautecore. I think it's discontinued at MAC. However, Kat Von D has a black lipstick in her Studded Kiss lipstick line called Slayer, which is a matte black.

(By the way, these are just a few of my favorite lipsticks!)

2)Taupe lips
Another lip shade that I been obsessing over is taupe! If you want something that's almost in the nude family, but different, then give taupe a try! I find it's so Fall appropriate and it's a shade that looks stunning on any skin color! I have Stone by Mac, which is a greyish taupe brown, that I highly recommend! It's a lipstick that you can rock with any makeup look! I also own Ghoulish by LA Splash Cosmetics, which is a greyish taupe with mauve undertones to it. This is a waterproof liquid lipstick that I also been loving. The only thing is make sure that you use lip balm before applying this liquid lipstick! This one falls more on the grey/taupe side, but equally as stunning as Stone!

3)Navy blue lips?!
Guys, Kat Von D came out with the shade Echo in her Everlasting Liquid Lipstick line, that automatically captured my attention! I believe she released this at the end of July, but this is definitely a unique shade! I've been seeing this satin navy blue shade all over Instagram and I'm like YASSS, I need it! It's another shade that would look good on any skin color! It's something different and that's why I bought it! It's not your typical lip shade that you find everywhere! I'm not going to lie, it took me awhile to get used to it. I find it looks good on me, when I just do a light eye makeup. I know this is a color that not everyone is going to like, but hey at times, you just got to stand out!

Another look at it, I just love it!

4)Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette
This palette screams Fall to me! The shades in this palette are absolutely gorgeous and so Fall appropriate! You can create a neutral eye look or even a smokey one! There are infinite looks you can create! I'm absolutely obsessed with the shade Succubus, which is that rustic red brown! That color looks stunning in the crease! All the eyeshadows in this palette are matte! Like you can't go wrong with this palette!

5)Rustic brown eyeshadows
I figured I'd mention just rustic reddish brown eyeshadows in general! I love this shade for the crease! It's absolutely stunning and really brings out your eyes out! As mentioned Succubus in the KVD Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette is the definition of the perfect rustic reddish brown eyeshadow! I also love Brown Script by MAC, which is similar, but it has more red to it than Succubus. There's also Cocoa Bear by Makeup Geek that I love. This eyeshadow is a warm reddish brown. All these eyeshadows that I've named are matte and I normally always love a matte shade in the crease. Especially when it comes to Fall, I tend to use less glitter, because I love to have a simple eye look and bold lips!

6)That mauve/purple crease
Another obsession that I've had is a mauve/purple crease! I've been seeing so many looks on Instagram that feature a bold mauve/purple crease with a neutral eyeshadow on the lid and bold dark purple lips! I really want to try it out this Fall, because it looks absolutely gorgeous! I actually don't own many mauve and purple eyeshadows, because you know I'm always about neutrals. But luckily, I have the Tartelette palette, which has the 2 most beautiful purple and mauve shades! The eyeshadow Best Friend in this palette, is legit my best friend! I've used this eyeshadow a million times in my crease! It's just that perfect medium mulberry color that suits any skin color! There's also the shade Bombshell, which is a deepened plum. Again, absolutely beautiful in the crease. Since it's dark, it definitely creates a dramatic crease! There's also Natural Beauty, which is the perfect light muted mauve/purple color for the lid! There's also Makeup Geek's Country Girl that I like in the crease. It's a brown eyeshadow with mauve undertones. This one actually has shimmer to it (not too much), however, it's not too overpowering to put in the crease! If you want a medium mauve crease, this is the color to get!

7)Tartelette Palette by Tarte
I decided to give the Tartelette it's own shout out, because honestly, it's that palette you can never get tired of! This palette is perfect! It has your neutrals, your mauves, your cool tones, your warm tones, browns and taupes! You can create infinite looks with this palette! All the colors work well with each other and it compliments any skin color! Like this palette is one of my favorite palettes and I use it all year round!

8)MAC Fix Plus
The last product is kind of boring, but it's my holy grail! Ya, I can't live without MAC Fix Plus! Especially when the weather is getting dry, I always need to spray this on before I apply my makeup to hydrate my skin! If I don't, my skin just feels so dry and flakey! I normally put on full coverage foundations during Fall and it's hard to work with when your skin is dry! So, if you have that problem, definitely give MAC Fix Plus a go! It's honestly the best product to help your makeup and skin look fresh! If you also want dewy skin, then spray Fix Plus on after you apply your makeup! It'll just blend everything together so perfectly and leave a beautiful dewy finish!

So, be sure to be following me on Instagram @divya_patelxo ! I have so many Fall time looks in my head that I can't wait to create!
